The Thanksgiving holiday weekend marks the start of a dangerous month on our roads and highways.
In 2019, of 10,142 alcohol-impaired traffic fatalities, 837 occurred during the month of December, according to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Christmas and New Year’s were especially dangerous, with more drunk-driving fatalities than during any other holiday period that year. Traffic safety officials expect the same this year, so NHTSA and police departments nationwide will be ramping up DUI enforcement with their annual Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.
The National Road Safety Foundation, our client, will be reinforcing that messaging with a virtual media tour. We'll be hitting TV stations in at least 15 markets, doing zoom interviews and giving newscast sound bites talking about impaired driving.
The key message is obvious but always bears repeating -- Don't Drink and Drive and Be Smart behind the wheel.
