    I am appalled--and frightened--by this move and all it represents. I wonder if it can be enforced? Can the White House afford the staff to drill down to review out of pocket expenses of federal agencies when there is so much essential work to be done? What happens to the agency that refuses to follow this order?

    Worse is the damage it will do to federal agency employees, as you note, and to the bottom line of newspapers. The Times and Post are doing OK these days but many others struggle. Will Republican governors follow this example-- to forbid state office subscriptions to the little that's left of regional newspapers whose editorial boards don't match their political approach and whose newsrooms report the good and the bad of their policies?

    This isn't a dumb move by this man--it is a calculated one to further destroy the country.
