I've talked about this before -- bloggers being pitched by public relations people. I've said how I feel bloggers will be getting more PR pitches, as marketers and their advertising and PR agencies realize the power blogs can have as powerful word-of-mouth. And I've said how important it is that PR people treat bloggers with respect, just as they would (or should) if they were pitching a reporter, editor or producer at a mainstream media outlet.
CK is back, and she spelled out beautifully some rules for PR people pitching her. They should apply to a PR person pitching anyone anywhere. It's worth clicking over to read what she said.
Part of the problem is that some public relations people evidently lack basic courtesy nor do they seem to understand how reporters work. It's often a junior-level person doing the picthing and if the person supervising is himself or herself unprofessional in how they pitch, they'll just pass along bad practices. These are the same people who anger reporters by calling on deadline, throwing stuff at them that's wrong for that reporter, or calling to ask if they received their news release. Their bad behavior makes it harder for those of us who are professional.
Mainstream media or bloggers, the people being pitched deserve professional treatment from us public relations folks.
